In 2007, former foster youth from all over the nation, including Lisa Dickson and Amanda Davis from Ohio, came Home for the Holidays to Washington D.C., to remind our parents, the federal government, about the need to Foster Connections to Success. We participated in a series of legislative visits, followed by a Thanksgiving Day celebration.
On Thanksgiving Day 2007, foster care alumni celebrated Thanksgiving Dinner on the steps of the United States Capitol. Here is a link to more photos. Ever since, Ohio has been holding annual Thanksgiving Together dinners to remind our brothers and sisters of the system that they are not alone.
The Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act (P.L. 110-351) passed both houses of Congress by unanimous, bipartisan support and was signed into law in October 2008.
