Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
ESSA supports the educational stability of foster youth by focusing on identification, enrollment, transfer of records and transportation. This includes a checklist for schools, a flowchart that maps out school and child welfare responsibilities and the responsibilities of the Foster Care Liaison.
OHIO YAB Youth Ambassador Mattie Harrod created a video to share her insights about the Every Student Succeeds Act and ESSA Liaisons in the state of Ohio.
In the 2022-2023 school year, Ohio had 16,519 students in foster care.
